Fraudsters, who are always looking for new ways to make money dishonestly, are not idle and have recently increasingly targeted the parcel delivery sector. According to Gediminas Mickaus, Commercial and Sales Director for the Baltic States at the logistics company SmartPosti UAB, fraudsters try to extort money or personal data from those waiting for parcels in various ways, so it is important for people to be extremely careful. Here are the most important tips that will help protect your assets and data from the increased attacks by fraudsters. Fraudsters are becoming more and more inventive According to the Banking Association, in the second quarter of this year, as much as 2.5 million euros were defrauded from Lithuanian residents and companies, and fraudsters are also using new methods and techniques. One of them is fraudulent messages sent pretending to be parcel companies operating in the country. "Many people use parcel delivery services every day, so fraudsters looking for new ways to make money are also trying to take advantage of this. Recently, they have been attacking the parcel sector more and more often – our customers also receive SMS messages or emails in which, under the guise of our company, they are asked to update their data by clicking on a link and providing payment card or other personal information," says G. Mickus. He notes that the websites indicated by scammers can be very similar to the official websites of shipping companies, so caution and attentiveness are especially important. Suggests following the 100 percent rule According to G. Mickaus, before sharing personal data, it is important to be 100% sure that it will go exactly where you want it to go. Therefore, he urges customers to be extremely careful and always check whether they are going to the real company's website when they open a link. "It is important to note that our website is not intended for payments – they are made through the self-service system. I also want to emphasize that we never ask customers to pay for updating shipment data, and if they choose to pay for goods upon pickup, customers receive messages only from the sender "SmartPosti"," says G. Mickus. When receiving a suspicious message or email, G. Mickus advises paying attention to the sender's name and grammatical errors in the message text. "When in doubt, never provide personal data or make any payments. If you receive a suspicious message with the company's name, we recommend that you contact our customer service department and make sure that the link is real and safe to click on. In the event that you clicked on the link and entered your payment card details, we advise you to immediately contact your bank, and if you have been victimized, contact the police," advises G. Mickus.
